Pears in ginger-spiced red wine (iVillage)

This makes a wonderful emergency dessert, served with a ginger biscuit and dollop of Greek yoghurt or creme fraiche. Pour the wine into a saucepan just large enough to hold the pears sitting upright. Add the sugar, ginger, orange rind and juice and heat gently, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
